A couple of years ago, I met a young guy named Matthew Mueller from Austin, MN at our fall show with his family. He was so much fun to watch, as he soon became a very capable showman with a great sense of humor. I found out that he was very involved with 4-H and did very well with his projects. He didn’t have a Highland of his own and would show other farm’s animals, including mine. It was such an honor to have him show for me as I would point out the animal to him and he would get it ready for the show ring.
Last year, I approached Matthew and his family to see if they would be interested in Matthew raising a steer. I was very grateful that they took their time to think about it and make sure that they were prepared for the commitment of raising a steer for market. Well, last fall I was honored to give Matthew the steer. And for me is has been nothing short of pure joy. He has kept me posted on how he and the steer are doing. And I finally got to see them both, at the Spring Show a couple of weeks ago. He is doing a great job and is so proud of the steer. I am looking forward to watching this pair continue to grow together.
